Tipton, Missouri is situated in the very heart of the United States and rich in history, agriculture and industrial development. Tipton typifies the spirit that has made our country great. Tipton is proud of its heritage, its present, and looks forward to its future as it continue to be a friendly place to live and work.
Tipton is located in Moniteau County and situated almost exactly in the center of the state. It is on U.S. Highway 50 and State Highway 5, which connect with Highway 65 on the west, Interstate 70 on the north, Highway 63 on the east, and Interstate 44 on the south. Nestled in a comfortable climate at 910 feet above sea level, the average temperature is 55 degrees. Average annual rainfall is 37 inches with an average of 20 inches of snow each year.
Tipton's electricity is supplied by Ameren UE. Co-Mo Electric Cooperative supplies electricity to the rural residents. Natural Gas Service is supplied by Missouri Gas Energy. Sprint provides telephone services, and Falcon cable provides cable television. Tipton has one weekly newspaper, the Tipton Times, which covers all of Moniteau County as well as much of the neighboring counties.
The city has a mayor-council form of government on a non-political basis. Ninety percent of the city streets are paved and city property is valued well over $4 million. There is a fire station located in the center of town equipped with modern fire-fighting and rescue equipment. The city of Tipton has 24 hour police service and is serviced by the Mid-Mo Ambulance District.
A public library serves all families in the Moniteau County R-VI School District. The city park, where facilities are always being added, features a baseball field, sand volleyball courts, basketball court, playground equipment, horseshoe pits, a lake, gazebo, and shelter houses.
The public and parochial schools are growing and improving. Tipton High School students have the opportunity to utilize both Boonslick Area Vocational Technical School in Boonville and State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
Tipton has nine different churches, all active in community life, as well as numerous service organizations.
Tipton is an industrial town with modern facilities. The Tipton Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Development Authority and the newly formed Moniteau County Economic Development Board are happy to assist new industries to locate in the area.
Tipton works hard, but it also plays hard. Tipton Country Club has a nine hole golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts, and a club house with year-round activities for members. The community also boasts a community swimming pool. There is an abundance of streams and rivers nearby for fishing and Tipton is four miles north of Manito Lake, an 80 acre lake surrounded by 800 acres of upland wildlife area, owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Tipton is within 30 miles of the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks, 100 miles east of Kansas City, and 140 miles west of St. Louis.
Moniteau County is a fine agricultural area with contrasting hill, bottom, and prairie lands. It is a heavy producer of wheat, corn, oats, and milo. Stock, dairy and poultry farming supply the area with a diversified income. Tipton is situated in the center of this great agriculture, dairying, and livestock producing area.
