HistoryTipton has a rich history that dates back to the 1850's. Unless noted otherwise, the following information in this section is taken from the book "Tipton - A History of the Community", published by the Tipton Bicentennial Committee in 1976, Gloria Knipp, Editor. The book is a collection of Tipton's history in words and pictures. It was compiled by Tipton area residents for the Tipton Bicentennial Committee. Read the Forward, Credits, and "Beginning" for more information. Where quality of printing allowed, the book has been posted in its entirely. Also be aware that the articles were written in 1976. They were left exactly as they appear in the book. Therefore, occasionally they refer to a building or other information which is no longer current. Go to the Table of Contents. Please be aware that very few photos were scanned on to the pages. Due to the printing process used in the book, scans were of very poor quality. |
