The First Baptist Church, Tipton, was organized in 1865, in a school building on West Morgan Street. Rev. E.T. Brown, of Sedalia, gave valuable assistance in its organization and in raising funds. The first church was erected in 1866, where the Masonic Cemetery is now located. In 1872, the old site was vacated and a new house of worship was built on East Morgan Street. The present building was erected in 1898 on this same site.

Rev. J.B. Allyn was the first pastor of the church. The first deacons were P.W. Fisher, William H. Stinson, and Jacob Redier. Mr. Reider also served as Sunday School Superintendent for 30 years, and was perhaps the first. Mr. Charles Wareham was the first clerk of the church. The Woman's Missionary Union was organized in 1889 by Mrs. Tom Tate during the pastorate of her husband. The Brotherhood was organized in 1947 with Roscoe Collier as president.

In January, 1944, when extending the call to Rev. Ivan Coyle to be the pastor, the church voted to go to full-time services. In 1947-48, the annex south of the church was built. In 1949, the church purchased a parsonage on East Morgan Street. In 1951, the church went into an extensive remodeling and repair pro-gram on the church building, and it was changed from the Gothic type structure to a more modern type building. A new educational unit to the present building was completed in 1956. During 1957 new pews and pulpit furniture was installed. A lot was purchased in the Fischer addition south of Highway 50 in 1960, and a new pastor's home was constructed. In 1961, a complete set of Maas-Rowe chimes was installed as a Memorial Gift by Mrs. Grace Harrelson. In August 1965, the church purchased the Moss property two doors west of the church building which is being used for educational purposes as well as youth activities.

Property east of the church as been purchased and is used for a new sanctuary and educational unit. The Building Committee is presently engaged with an architect. In the near future the church hopes to enter into a building program.

The church has a membership of over 500 at the present time.

Forty-one pastors have served during the 111 years of the church's existence. Rev. J.C. Cooper served the longest time, from 1958-1971. Rev. J.C. Tedder has been the minister since 1972.
