Tipton Times, April 21, 1892:
The bell donated by Mayor Redmon and the old Board of Aldermen to the City, has been put in position and will now serve to give the alarm in case of fire. Tipton should be grateful to each of these gentlemen for their liberality."
In 1974 the bell was mounted in front of the present City Hall by Clay Howard and his crew. The bell, which still rings clearly, was mounted on a beam taken from a building on the old Tom Hartman farm now owned by Marvin Mertes.
This bell was mounted on the old City Hall, which was built in approximately the same location as the present City Hall. The first story of the old City Hall was used for storing the fire truck and related equipment; the second story served as a council room.
The bell sounded the alarm for fires until 1935 when it was replaced with an electric siren.
