A & D Builders, a commercial, industrial and general construction company, started in 1974. Dale Bestgen is the president; Bonnie Bestgen is the manager.

Advance Systems Construction started in 1972. They are in land development. Bonnie Bestgen is vice-president and manager.

April 1, 1949, Chester E. Larimore, James G. Prestagc, and James Hum­phrey formed the L.P. & H. Construction Company in Linton, Indiana. The firm was named for these three men. In 1971, the company's home office was moved to Tipton.

L.P. & H. Construction Company was incorporated in 1972. The company is operated by a Board of Directors selected from its shareholders.

The job purpose of L.P. & H. is to build power and communication lines. With the present work load, 90% of their dollar is underground communication lines. The number of employees has varied from 40 to 150.

James Prestage has resided in Tipton since coming here in 1950 to establish a field office.

Veach Construction Company also has a home office in Tipton.

Tipton has several building contractors. They are Stanley Potts, Roy Dick, Clay Howard, Leon Moon, and the Gaw Brothers Construction Company, Inc., - Dan, Bob, and Ralph Gaw, owners.

Louis H. Schmidt started Smitty's Electric Service in 1954. Prior to that time he had worked as an electrician with Virgil Helms, beginning in 1947. He does all types of electrical contracting.

Wirth's Electric is located at the west edge of Tipton on Highway 50. Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Wirths of Syracuse purchased the electrical and plumbing business in 1973 from three Wirths' family members. They do both commercial and residential contracting.

The appliance portion was purchased by Tom Edwards.

Tipton plumbers include : Walter Geiser, Worley Fisher, and Ernest Homan.

The Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Company was begun in January 1976, by Robert T. Mertens. In addition to repairing refrigeration systems, refrigerators and freezers, he sells air conditioners and air conditioning systems.

Williams and Miller Construction Company operate a backhoe. It is owned by Vernon Williams and Thomas Miller.

Prestage Ready-Mix is owned by Max Prestage. He purchased the business from George Powell in March, 1967. The business, located on East Moniteau Street, sells ready-mix concrete and accessories.
