Ed's Cafe is located in
downtown Tipton. This short order cafe is decorated in sea motif. They specialize in
fast-food service, either eat-in or carry-out. Ed's also sells 5% beer.
Ed Wolf purchased the business from Howard
Jones in September of 1972. It was previously operated by Herman Dahl as the Tipton Coffee
Shop for many years.
5 & 50 Drive-In is owned
and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dueber. It was built in 1952 by Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Brenton who now reside in Royal, Arkansas. In 1960 Mr. and Mrs. David Brant purchased the
business. In 1964 they sold one-half interest to the Duebers. The Duebers bought the
remaining half in 1965.
The 5 & 50 serves soft-serve ice cream,
drinks, and sandwiches, with walk-up window service nine months out of the year.
Crystal Cafe was purchased by
Terry Cole on April 1, 1976. The restaurant is located next door to the Conoco Service
Station on the northwest corner of the Highways 5 and 50 intersection. Previous owners
included John and Shirley Bond, Harry Goldberg and Charles Schuster.
The Butterfield Inn is located
on the southeast corner of the Highways 5 & 50 intersection. Joe Griswold owns the
business. The land and building are owned by J. & C. Enterprises. Mr. David Hillsman
currently manages the restaurant.
Harry Goldberg opened the Butterfield Inn in
January 1973.
Darryl Gagnon owned the business from Feb. 1974
until December 1975 when the present owner took over.
The Wagon Wheel Tavern is
owned by Marilyn Marcum. The business was
purchased in 1969 from Bill Hill. Located in the downtown business district, the Wagon
Wheel serves beer primarily, but also serves sandwiches and pizzas.
Emil's Station and Cafe is
located on the southwest corner of the Highways 5 & 50 intersection. Emil Gerke
purchased the business August 25, 1975 from Frank Knipp. Leo Koechner had previously
owned the business which was then known as Leo's. Before that the business was known as
Dixel and had several different owners.
Emil serves cold beer and short orders. The station sells Sinclair gas.
